At 14, I was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition and almost went blind. I fell behind in my studies and couldn’t take the final exams. After that, I had to take some time out to focus on my health. One year later, I was able to return to education through the further education and training route, accredited by Quality and Qualifications Ireland. I’m now in the second year of a Digital Marketing degree and I’m gaining vital skills in social media and marketing, which I hope to use to build my career. I’ve also gained public speaking and advocacy skills through AONTAS's ‘Learners as Leaders’ programme and I’m currently contributing to shaping educational policies as the Director of the Board of AONTAS. Adult education is very powerful - I encourage others to take that first step towards a brighter future.
