Eagerly awaited launch: the European Alliance for Microcredentials

Micro-credentials certify the learning outcomes of short-term learning experiences, such as a short course or training. They provide a flexible, targeted approach to assisting people in developing the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for personal and professional development. 

What is the European Alliance for Microcredentials about? 

The Alliance is established with the mission of promoting the offer, uptake, and recognition of micro-credentials across the EU and beyond, in the public, for profit and non-profit sectors, with special focus on formal education and the labour market.  

What sets the Alliance apart is its transnational nature. Comprising an array of stakeholders from across the public, for-profit, and non-profit sectors, the Alliance is based on inclusivity and cooperation. Its primary goal is not only to promote the adoption of micro-credentials among training providers of all kinds, but also to support its members in delivering high-quality results that maximize their impact.  

Their outreach is broad and ambitious, with potential members ranging from VET centres, higher education institutions, technical education providers, chambers of commerce, educational authorities, employment centres, employers, NGOs, social partners, accreditation bodies, municipalities, and regional directorates.  

Use of EU funding for micro-credentials 

The EU-funded MicroVET project hopes to improve permeability between the education and training sectors and the labour market by establishing the Alliance. This alignment will empower people with improved employability while also encouraging continuous reskilling and upskilling. What is the final goal? A workforce that is better prepared to seize professional opportunities while also growing personally.
