Latvia gathers vocational education experts and practitioners from all around the world in the Skillman International Forum

On 26 and 27 September, the annual international forum "Skillman" for vocational education will take place at the Ogre Technical School in Latvia, where experts and practitioners from all over the world will share their experience and discuss the latest trends on skills.

The 2023 Forum will focus on the potential of global networking as a resource for co-creating our common knowledge. More than 400 delegates from around the world will attend the forum on-site and online, sharing their experiences in developing professional education in their countries and promoting its links with the labour market. 

The forum will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, Evika Siliņa, and the Minister of Education and Science, Anda Čakša.  

"Professional education in Latvia has developed significantly, gaining international recognition. We have a reason not only to be proud of what we have achieved, but also to responsibly set new goals for further growth. Latvian professional education must become more and more open to global processes to continue its development and ensure future labour market needs for economic growth," emphasised the Minister of Education and Science, Anda Čakša.   

The first day of the forum will be filled with discussions between experts and practitioners of vocational education. In various sessions, they will discuss issues, such as: 

  • Ensuring the quality of education for future needs 

  • What pedagogical skills are needed today and looking into the future 

  • The importance of data analytics in the development of human capital 

  • Labour market participants role and responsibility in the preparation of qualified specialists 

One of the speakers is Ms. Kristīne Krivmane, Team Leader for the European Year of Skills at DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion within the European Commission. She will deliver a presentation on the European Year of Skills and EU initiatives regarding vocational education and training (VET). 

On the second day, participants will familiarise themselves with the possibilities of modern professional education by touring various VET providers’ institutions. 

The event is organized in partnership with the Latvian Ministry of Education and Science - as part of the European Year of Skills, Europea Latvia, the European Training Foundation and the Asian Development Bank.
