I had sunk to incredible depths due to a chronic gambling addiction and ended up in prison. I was 51 with what felt like no future and I knew I needed to reinvent myself. This spurred me on to complete a degree while I was in prison - it helped me to get through the toughest time in my life and I’m pleased to say that I came through it with flying colours. The English teacher I studied with does incredible work with prisoners. I’ve become a published author and now teach people with literacy issues through The Bedford Row Project. I’ve learned that no matter how much adversity you face, life with an education and a skillset is a far better life. You’re never too old - or young - to learn.
