Turing College launches new course on intersectional bias in AI thanks to EU funding

"Educating minds to excel in theory while equipping them with real-world skills is at the core of Turing College's mission," states Eimantas Sabaliauskas, Co-founder of Nord Security.

This statement underpins Turing College's mission, designed to mold participants into proficient data scientists within 8-12 months through immersive, project-based learning. Central to the initiative is a focus on practical learning, essential for navigating real-world challenges. Approximately 16 real-life data science projects immerse participants in hands-on experiences, where they apply theoretical knowledge and receive feedback from professionals and peers. This interactive process cultivates practical problem-solving skills critical for real-world data scenarios. The programme's emphasis on specialisation in cutting-edge fields like machine learning equips participants to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving data science landscape. With a comprehensive toolset, learners are tackling complex data analysis challenges confidently. Tailored to meet job market demands, the curriculum ensures graduates possess sought-after skills. Flexible graduation timelines and portfolio building opportunities allow participants to showcase their skills through impressive projects, enhancing employability.

Capstone projects enable participants to address real business problems using advanced techniques like machine learning, showcasing their ability to create tangible business impact. Beyond technical proficiency, Turing College provides career readiness support, including mock interviews and salary negotiation guidance, preparing participants for the job market.

In June 2023, Turing College joined the EU-funded DiversiF-AI-R project, demonstrating its commitment to ethical AI. DiversiF-AI-R, funded by Erasmus+, aims to develop a pioneering EU wide approach to deal with intersectional fairness in AI based on use cases, data, and models that originate or have been deployed in Europe.

To this end, Turing College set up a specialised course to educate learners about and mitigate intersectional bias in AI, contributing to a more inclusive AI ecosystem. Through this initiative, Turing College and the DiversiF-AI-R project aim to broaden digital skills and awareness, promoting collaborative and innovative practices aligned with European standards and values.
