Elfie Descarpentries

My name is Elfie, and I am 20 years old. I grew up in the north of France, near Lille, I am currently living in Lyon for my studies and work. I am enrolled in a work-study program specialized in industrial engineering and robotics. My curriculum covers mechanics, robotics, software development, automation, and electronics. Concurrently, I am employed at a company specialized in the production of specialized leak testing machines, where I serve as an electrical systems referent, overseeing electrical and pneumatic plans, among other responsibilities. I find great fulfillment in this role as it allows me to contribute to the entire machine design process, from project studying to electrical planning, machine wiring, and installation at customer sites worldwide.

Regarding my participation in the WorldSkills competition, it was an unexpected journey. Initially, my teammate and I were not slated to compete. However, we decided to participate in the regional mobile robotics competition for the Hauts-de-France region. Despite competition, we secured the second position, seemingly marking the end of our venture. Yet, fate intervened just two weeks before the national competition in Lyon. Our teacher, who had initially informed us about the selection process, reached out to inquire if we were willing to represent WorldSkills France. After careful consideration, my teammate and I accepted the challenge. We dedicated ourselves to rigorous preparation, mastering robot construction, programming, and the competition's requisite tests.

The three-day competition was an arduous yet rewarding experience. Each day began with a briefing outlining the tasks ahead. Our primary challenge involved programming the robot to scan QR codes and stamp packages. Each day we had track tests and technical assessments. As the competition progressed, the tasks became increasingly demanding. However, we persevered and ultimately clinching the top position. The competition not only enhanced our technical skills in robotics and programming but also upgraded our ability to manage stress, communicate effectively, and collaborate within our team.

Post-competition, my passion for robotics has only intensified. The experience has inspired me to pursue further technical expertise in the field, motivating me to embark on a journey of self-directed learning. It's with pride that I can now say we are the French champions in mobile robotics.
